COVID-19 + Workers' Compensation (Video)

Attorney Rachel Mahoney shares a few reasons why you might consider hiring an attorney for your COVID-19 workers' compensation case.

Hi everyone. This is Rachel Mahoney, partner at Cole Fisher, your leading workers’ compensation law firm. Thank you for joining us. Today, I want to talk about when you should hire an attorney if you have sustained COVID-19 on the job. Before we get to that, I want to update a recent conversation, wherein we discussed when you should apply for workers compensation benefits due to COVID-19. Thanks to a May 6th executive order by Governor Gavin Newsom, it is now much easier to get workers compensation benefits if you contracted COVID-19 while on the job between the days of March 19 and July 5th. So if that's you, and you suffered COVID-19 on the job, definitely apply.

Okay, so let's assume you got COVID-19 on the job, you've applied for workers compensation benefits. When should you hire an attorney? There are several scenarios in which I think you should consider consulting with an attorney.

The first is, let's assume you were hospitalized - or worse - you were put on a ventilator. Let's assume that you are in the process of recovering or you have recovered, but you have serious concerns that you have long term effects such as trouble breathing, lung scarring, heart, kidney issues. Or let's assume that you have recovered, but you are having serious anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms. Hiring an attorney in any of those situations could be very important to secure future medical benefits in a situation where we don't know what the long-term effects are. These future medical benefits will become a very important part of your settlement
