Online Injured Worker Workshops Starting in October
Injured workers in California navigating the workers' compensation system can often feel overwhelmed and confused about their rights and options following an injury. On top of this, being injured may limit a worker's access to attend in-person meetings at one of the 23 district offices and satellites throughout California. They may also not have the means to attend the physical meetings. That's why, starting in October, online workshops will be available throughout California to help injured workers understand their rights and options related to workers' compensation programs.
The free workshops, which will be conducted in English and Spanish, will provide information on a variety of topics pertaining to injured workers. Here's what you need to know:
What are online injured worker workshops and what will they offer participants?
The online injured worker workshops will include an informative presentation, introducing participants to the basics of workers’ compensation so that they know their rights and what to expect after filing a claim with their employer. After the presentation, there will be a question-and-answer session.
Access to these workshops allows participants to learn about their rights and responsibilities as injured workers. They will also be able to access resources that can help them navigate the process of returning to work. Additionally, online workshops will offer participants the opportunity to connect with other injured workers who may be going through similar experiences.
What topics will be covered in the online workshops for injured workers in California?
The following topics will be covered in the workshops:
Resolving disagreements about claims
Disability payments
Returning to work after an injury
Injured workers’ right to medical treatment
When and where will the online workshops be available throughout California starting in October?
The first English workshop will be held on Friday, October 7, while the first Spanish workshop will be held later in the month on Friday, October 21.
Through January of 2023, the English workshops will be held on the first Friday of each month, while the Spanish workshops will be held on the third Friday of each month. The workshops are designed to provide information and resources that can assist injured workers through this tough time in their lives. They are part of the Department of Workers' Compensation's (DWC) mission to expand assistance to California’s injured workers. They are also another step towards ensuring that injured workers have access to the support they need during their return to work. Even if you're not recently injured or haven't filed any claims, you're still welcome and might benefit from the information provided.
